The previously announced revival of David Mamet’s A Life in Theatre starring Patrick Stewart has found a theater of its own. The show will begin performances at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on September 17 with Neil Pepe directing. Stewart’s co-star in the two actor play will be announced at a later date. The Schoenfeld’s current tenant, A Behanding in Spokane, is scheduled to close June 6.
A Life in the Theatre follows the relationship between an elderly actor Robert (Stewart), and newcomer John. Robert develops a bond as mentor to John, but as the story continues he loses his touch, with John emerging as the more experienced and wise thespian.
The show made its off-Broadway debut in October 1977 after a run at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre and ran for 288 performances. This production marks its first staging on Broadway.
